RPM 2021 - Independence Golf Club, Midlothian, VA
RPM 2021 provided the Shenandoah Region with an outstanding venue at Independence Golf Club and a day of spectacular weather. We had over 100 in attendance. Independence Golf Club did an outstanding job hosting us and provided exemplary service. The weekend began with the trackcross at Dominion Raceway. Our autocross team of Erik Boody and Rick Ebinger once again provided an outstanding event. I saw nothing but enthusiastic smiles from participants.
Following the trackcross, we had a tech session and cocktail party at Euroclassics Porsche in Midlothian with over 70 PCA members in attendance. I want to thank Euroclassics for hosting this event during RPM.
The day of the RPM Concours and Porsche Corral began with perfectly clear skies in what turned out to be an outstanding September day. I was extremely pleased with the participation in our second year of COVID. Everyone who attended clearly enjoyed being out amongst friends and passionate Porsche enthusiasts. The venue provided a very high quality event and a very tasty lunch under the golf course pavilion. The day concluded with a driving tour led by eastern vice president Charlie Agee. The drive had three groups lead by Charlie, Tyler Agee and Mike Early. Comments from the driving tour attendees were that they all had a great drive over exciting roads. I would like to thank those that provided their time to make this event as outstanding as it was: Dan Kuchenberg (western vice president), Paula Ironmonger, Charlie Agee (eastern vice president), Engelbert and Claudia Meulhaupt, Jim Tetterton, Chip Williams, Elvin and Peggy Hedgpeth, and the head Concours judges, Hank Weil and Roger Borsink.

New Member Dinner Party
With the lack of events during the pandemic, many new members have not had an opportunity to join any club activities. Every member who joined from July 2019 on was invited to meet the board members and gain insight into what we do as a club.
The event was held at the Ashcroft community club house in Charlottesville. We had 45 members and spouses join us for a spectacular evening which included hors d' oeurves, dinner and dessert. Bacio Mediterranean Cuisine catered the event and provided an outstanding array of delectable dishes which received rave reviews.
A special thanks goes to Gary and Janie Hunter for allowing the Shenandoah Region to hold our event at the community club house and all of the assistance they provided. |
Both sides of the Rapidan Driving Tour
Bates and Colin McLain always lay out a wonderful driving event for the Shenandoah Region. June 13 provided region members another outstanding day driving through Greene, Orange and Madison Counties. Each driving tour we have had this year has been larger than the one before. This tour had 45 cars and 69 people. This may be an all time high record! The group was so large that we organized six groups, each assigned to a tour lead. The drive concluded at Graves Mountain Farm & Lodges in Syria, Virginia. The lodge provided members our own dining room for a traditional southern Sunday lunch.

Hadley's First Fun Run, May 23, 2021
Our tour leads, Harold and Amber Singh, dedicated this drive to their daughter, Hadley. Our drive began in Goochland Courthouse and traveled into Louisa, Hanover, Goochland, Henrico, Chesterfield and Powhatan Counties. We even dipped into the City of Richmond when we crossed the James River on the Huguenot Bridge. The roads and the sites were spectacular. Many local members commented that they had never experienced a number of the roads we traveled on. Points of interest were noted on this drive as there is so much history surrounding the Richmond area. We had 34 cars participating which were divided into six groups. Our destination was Fine Creek Brewing Company in Powhatan. We had several members and spouses who were not on the drive join us at Fine Creek Brewing for a total of 60 people. Those that took the time to walk the grounds of Fine Creek saw the remains of the original water driven grist mill and the breathtaking stream flowing over solid rock. The adjacent Fine Creek Mill is a wedding venue. Speaking to one of the owners, they have bookings two years out. The food Fine Creek served and the beer they brewed were both outstanding. We had a memorable drive and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with fellow members we have not seen due to the pandemic. Many thanks to the Singh’s for their efforts putting together this very enjoyable drive and social gathering. |

Bald Top Brewery Spring Drive, April 25 2021
We had an outstanding turnout for our first drive of the year with 29 cars and 47 registered attendees. We had two members of Potomac Region join us at the brewery and one local Porsche owner who heard about our event. This provided a grand total of 50 in attendance at Bald Top. Terence Banks was the drive leader for this event. Terence was raised in Madison County and now lives in Greene County. He has an intimate knowledge of the great roads Madison and Greene County have to offer along with northern Albemarle. Our mid-point stop on our driving tour was at Maybelle's Market. Dan Graff led an initial group to provide logistics and parking guidance to the next five car groups arriving at Maybelle's. Our mid-point stop has a maximum capacity of 31 cars. Dan's Team provided what appeared to be a choreographed positioning of our 29 cars with creative positioning amongst the other patrons at Maybelle's. Anyone driving by would have been amazed at a country market with nothing but Porsches in the parking lot. If you have never stopped at Maybelle's, you have missed something special. Our eastern vice president, Charlie Agee, during a pre-drive of the route, had one of the best sandwiches he has ever experienced at Maybelle's. Leaving Maybelle's, our drive headed north crossing Rt. 33 into Standardsville and then to Bald Top Brewery in Madison County. The brewery owner, Dave Fulton, was very accommodating by having the entrance road re-graded before our drive. I only know of one car that had the front splitter make contact coming in; a brand new beautiful black Cayman GT4. Fortunately there was no damage to the splitter. Bald Top had outdoor tables and a tent area which accommodated our group perfectly. We had several members from Potomac and First Settlers Region join us for our drive. The pizza was very good and the beer was most enjoyable. The weather turned out to be perfect and the roads were terrific. Many thanks to Terence for heading up this wonderful drive. |
