The Shenandoah Region

The Shenandoah Region of the Porsche Club of America (PCA) spans the following counties in central Virginia: Albermarle, Amherst, Augusta, Bath, Buckingham, Culpepper, Fluvanna, Greene, Highland, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, Page, Rockbridge, Rockingham, and Shenandoah. The Shenandoah Region is part of the larger PCA Zone 2 comprising ten regions in the northeast and the PCA national organization.

Our history: The Shenandoah Region was founded by Porsche enthusiasts in Central Virginia who found it difficult to attend Porsche Club events owing to the distances to adjacent PCA Regions. The inaugural meeting of the Shenandoah Region was announced by a letter from Cole Scrogham and took place on August 17, 1995; it was attended by 21 Porschephiles. The founding officers were Cole Scrogham (president), Terry Felts (vice president), Dave Lasch (secretary), and Steven Lord (treasurer). Roger Barrett was the first newsletter editor. The first issue was sent out in September 1995 and called "The No Name Yet Gazette," changed in November to "Heat Exchanger".

The Region's first activity was the "Fall Event," a rally/tour up Afton Mountain to the Blue Ridge Parkway that ended up at G&W Motorwerkes in Waynesboro for a 911 tech session. The first annual Holiday Party at the Boar's Head Inn in Charlottesville on December 9 was so successful that the 1996 Holiday Party was booked before the 1995 Party was over. By the end of 1995, membership had doubled to 43 members.

The first Shenandoah autocross was held in May 1996 on a Waynesboro parking lot. It was followed by a cookout at which the most-asked question was "When are we going to do this again?" The Shenandoah Region celebrated its first anniversary in August 1996 with an afternoon at the Waynesboro Go-Kart track followed by birthday cake at Weldon and Phyllis Scrogham's home. Our first track event was a Brian Redman driving school held in October 1996 at the Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia. In 1997 the initial RPM (Richmond Porsche Meet) featured a concours at the home of Alex and Gail Smith, a driving tour, and an autocross at Virginia Motorsport Park.

Today our region has grown to include more than 300 primary members and almost 200 affiliate members. The successors of these early events and much more can be found on Shenandoah Region’s calendar. We organize scenic driving tours, run six autocrosses each year, and take part in PCA (HPDE) events at the Virginia International Raceway and at Summit Point. The Richmond Porsche Meet (RPM) in September is a weekend-long event featuring a cocktail party at the Porsche dealer, a "tops only" Concours d'Elegance, a car corral, a catered lunch, and a driving tour.

We also host a Holiday party, Anniversary party, and several social get togethers in addition to the annual business meeting. Our members are also active in regional activities such as Charlottesville Cars and Coffee and the annual Virginia Festival of the Wheel. All of our members are encouraged to be active participants in the club, not only attending functions, but also helping with existing functions and starting new activities. We have a great support network to help new members become active club members.
